How to Grow Kohlrabi Microgreens

Kohlrabi microgreens combine the easy germination of a brassica with attractive stems that can add color and texture to a mix.

Use untreated, high-germination seed

Because the crop is eaten young, choose seed appropriate for microgreen or sprouting use.

Sow dry seed over moist media

Kohlrabi seed generally does not need soaking. Spread it evenly and press gently for good contact.

Keep germination humid, not flooded

A cover helps hold moisture, but the medium should remain moist rather than saturated.

Move into even light

The crop greens quickly after emergence. Strong, even overhead light helps produce a uniform tray.

Avoid over-seeding

A crowded brassica canopy holds moisture and reduces airflow. Start with a moderate density and adjust from your own yield data.

Harvest cleanly

Cut above the medium with clean tools when stems and leaves are tender and the color is well developed.

Adjust density using your own results

Rather than copying a single seeding rate without context, record your tray dimensions, seed amount, germination uniformity and harvest quality. If the canopy traps moisture or seedlings crowd one another, trial a modestly lower density next time. Use the seed density guide and grow log to make a repeatable comparison.
